SINGAPORE
hyper density boundaries

Year: 2022
Location: SINGAPORE

Being a small island located in the southernmost tip of the Malay penisula, Singapore has a relatively limited land extension available for building. This, together with a growing demographic pressure during the last 20 years, is bringing this country into the crossroads of providing enough affordable public housing for its population and preserving its urban green areas.

The result is a rapidly growing density in the public housing building typologies that that gives Singapore its unique urban landscape: the rectilinear geometry of the public housing blocks plays an intense game of contrast with the green mass of trees below, creating a fantastic -sometimes surreal- atmosphere, where the built structures seem to emerge from a dense rainforest.
